Vandals strike again as more plants are destroyed

Having reported that the plant baskets on the barriers near Wilmslow Leisure Centre were vandalised a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately the same thing has occurred to one of the 'Welcome to Wilmslow' signs.

Vandals have not only destroyed the flowers planted at the sign as you enter the town from Styal Road but they have then filled the plant pots with rubbish and dog mess.

Helen Richards, Assistant Town Clerk, said "I was first made aware of it when a local resident called me here at the office on Monday afternoon to report it. Following her call I drove over to take a look and found the flowers and compost strewn over the floor below the sign and a pizza box and other rubbish, including bagged-up dog waste, in the baskets themselves.

"I took the rubbish to a nearby bin and I have asked for those baskets to be temporarily removed as the Nursery doesn't have any stock to replace them at present and I don't want the baskets to continue to be used as rubbish/dog waste bins."

It is very sad when things like this happen but I remember when I first saw the beautiful displays I said to my hubby "it wont be long before they are stolen or destroyed". Some people see something beautiful & they for some warped reason feel compelled to destroy it. Obviously they don't know how to behave in a civilised society & probably have fly tips for gardens!!

Why do people do such things? Anger, stupidity or a mixture of both? We must not let these few fools stop us making Wilmslow, a better place for the majority of it's normal residents.

What morons that they have nothing better to do!!! In my opinion there really is no excuse for such pathetic behaviour.

I took a wonderful photograph at that very spot a couple of weeks' ago and posted it onto Facebook, all of my friends in the USA, Spain and Holland commented on the welcome sign with the plants, each comment reflected what a wonderful area I was lucky to live in!
Maybe the people responsible are the same people who took great delight in pushing over people's grey bins on Sunday night/Monday morning on Manchester road into Lacey Green!
What a pathetic act by an individual or group of people who obviously have no pride in where they live. Complete morons!

If whoever does this is caught they should be put in medieval stocks. We'd have some fun throwing rotten fruit and veg at them.

@Stephen O'Grady
So you think the bins found down Lacey green was done by these culprits? I thought it was because of the bypass road being closed that day. As Manchester road was very busy so I thought to ease the congestion they decided to move them deep down the road.

Hmmmmmm, Man's body found in burnt out car draws no comments and yet a few pulled plants mean eight people feel passionately enough to post their fustrations. I think a little perspective is in order folks.

That's because we comment on things that we see/affect us - we didn't know this person - don't know the circumstances - so why comment?

Public stocks in bank square at weekends so the culprits get stuff thrown at them for their behaviour, good idea....but swap the rotten food for dog poo! That will soon stop them!
