Better access moves a step closer

Following years of campaigning for better access to the platforms at Handforth Station, plans have been submitted for prior approval of works to make Handforth Station accessible for all.

Network Rail are proposing the works to provide an obstacle free, accessible route to and between platforms at the railway station where flights of 35 steps lead down to each platform.

Two lifts will be installed to provide step-free access to station platforms.

Additional works include: removal and relocation of the existing platform shelters, provision of elevated walkway structures from the lifts to provide step-free access from the station building to platforms 1 and 2 along with works to enable PRM access to and from the station including ramps yo eliminate kerbs, removal of the ticket machine plinth and new lighting.

The application can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council Planning portal by searching for planning reference 25/2070/PN.
