RHS Judges were given a tour of the town this week along with the eight In Your Neighbourhood Gardens who had all entered this year's North West In Bloom Competition.

Ruth Burgess returned again this year along with John Everiss who has never visited Wilmslow before, on Thursday, 17th July.

Following a presentation at the United Reform Church and a visit around their gardens the judges were taken on a tour by Mags Charity Bus stopping first at St Annes Primary School where
the children had built a wild garden, maintained the vegetable patch and pond.

They then walked to Chapel Lane where they walked to the Love the Lane pocket garden organised by Julie
Dawn Potts and onto The Temp, a well established vegetable and fruit garden which is maintained by Transition Wilmslow, and the WI Gardens before travelling to Lindow Common where the ranger Nicola walked them through part of the area.

The next stops were the four rose gardens at the library created by Wilmslow in Bloom, the Methodist Church to view the plant and people themed crafts.

This was followed by a walk down Grove Street down to the Memorial Gardens then on to Wilmslow station, the leisure centre, Rectory Gardens - where they loved the wooden sculpture created Garry Olson and the latest project for Wilmslow in Bloom - Phil's Log Lyme Log Garden being our next project.

Finally the judges were driven to Oakenclough, the largest of Transition Wilmslow's gardens featuring two big polytunnels and many vegetable beds.

Sue Worthington said "The Judges were very complimentary about Wilmslow and our gardens saying it looked amazing. They said we should be very proud of our achievements and
volunteers who give their free time to keep the town looking beautiful. They enjoyed seeing all the scarecrows around the town and were delighted they were left up for judging day."

Wilmslow in Bloom now have to wait until October for the results.

Sue added "we are always looking for volunteers. We are a very friendly group meeting every Tuesday from 10.00 – 12 noon and if you like gardening but have no experience it doesn't matter as we learn we go. Contact us on [email protected].

Garry Olsen and Phil Barton created the sculpture. Starting with planks of Robinia, drawing and cutting the figures. Fixing steel rods into the wood and cementing in place.
