At the Annual Town Council Meeting on Monday 19th May 2025, Councillor Sally Harrison was elected the new Wilmslow Town Mayor, replacing outgoing Town Mayor, Councillor Tim Higgins.

Councillor Tim Higgins had been Wilmslow Town Mayor since the beginning of the council year commencing in May 2024.

Having concluded his Mayoral year, Councillor Tim Higgins said, "Being Wilmslow Town Mayor for the last year has been a real pleasure.

"I look forward to continuing to serve as a councillor for Wilmslow West ward, remaining actively involved in the years ahead.

"I wish Sally every success in her new role as Town Mayor."

Councillor Toby Tritschler, who became Deputy Town Mayor in September 2024, has been re-elected as Deputy Town Mayor for the next council year.

New Town Mayor, Councillor Sally Harrison, said, "I am truly honoured to have been chosen as Mayor of Wilmslow. Thank you for the trust you have placed in me – it is both a privilege and a responsibility I take to heart. I would like to thank the outgoing Town Mayor, Tim Higgins, for his support to the Town Council over the last year and I look forward to working with the Deputy Town Mayor Toby Tritschler in the coming year.

"Whether you've lived here all your life or recently made Wilmslow your home, there is something that draws people to this town.

"For many of you, it will be the sense of community – the spirit of connection and care that makes Wilmslow so special. Over the past year, I have enjoyed working with the other town councillors. Together, we have had thoughtful discussions and shared a common goal: to keep enhancing Wilmslow. I am looking forward to seeing some of those ideas come to life in the year ahead.

"As Town Mayor, my aim is simple: to help Wilmslow remain a great place to live, work, and raise a family. This means supporting our local businesses, keeping our streets safe, and preserving the beautiful countryside that surrounds us.

"But more than anything, I want everyone to feel they have a voice. If you have ideas, concerns, or simply want to talk, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.

"One of Wilmslow's greatest strengths is its people – especially those who give their time to help others. Our many volunteer groups, whether offering companionship, education, or practical support, are the heart of our community. Their generosity and commitment make a real difference to our town, and I encourage you all to get involved.

"Let us keep that spirit of collaboration alive. Whether it is at a community event, in the local shops, or over a cup of coffee, I encourage you to stay engaged and share your thoughts.

"In the months to come, I will be visiting local schools, volunteer groups, and businesses to hear directly from you. Together, we can continue building a vibrant, welcoming, and inclusive Wilmslow."

What’s the point of having a ‘mayor’? Is it another waste of council tax…..like the “Town Council” which is also pointless

Great to see a female as Mayor and Leader of the Council. Congratulations Sally. Let's have more again this year to show case Wilmslow as a vibrant community.

What is the point of having a Mayor or Town Council? Interesting question, I'm not sure if it is a genuine enquiry, but fundamentally they act as a voice for the community and are responsible for some of the "nice" things we have - perhaps read the article on the Community Awards or see the impact of work to prevent the Cliff Road parking issues - to name but a couple.

I’ve certainly never seen her or heard of her in Handforth.
