Get your skates on for ice rink and Christmas market

Despite the chilly temperatures, the opening weekend of Wilmslow Christmas Festival has pulled in the crowds.

Families have been getting into the seasonal spirit at the ten day festival which kicked off on Friday with the switch on of the new Christmas lights.

Visitors have been soaking up the festive atmosphere at the Christmas market, getting their skates on to experience the magic of outdoor ice-skating at Banks Square and treating the children to a trip to Santa's grotto in the Romany caravan.

This year's Christmas market has a selection of stalls selling food, drink, decorations and gifts, including jewellery, clothes and toiletries. One of the most popular areas is the food section of the market where Gluhwein, Thai tapas, hog roast, German hotdogs, pizza and much more are on offer.

The Christmas Market has been put together by Denise Valente and Vicky Jackson who also organise the monthly Artisan Market on Grove Street.

They have made special arrangements for Wednesday when many schools will be closed due to a public sector strike.

Denise Valente said "The Christmas Festival is going fantastically well, it has brought Wilmslow alive and Wednesday is going to be spectacular.

"To coincide with the schools we have Imagine FM broadcasting live from the market on from 2pm to 5pm on Wednesday and there will be lots of discounts, vouchers and live performers on the day.

"We are also running a special weekday promotion on the ice-rink from now until Friday night where a third person can go for free with two paid skaters."

Both the grotto and ice-rink will be opening all day on Wednesday and the Christmas Festival will continue until Sunday 4th December when the Churches Together Christmas Carol Concert will be held outside Romany's Caravan at 3pm.

An ice rink! Is this a permanent feature?

We used to skate on Black Lake many years ago.
