A group of Handforth residents who came together recently to raise funds to regenerate their local park have been awarded a community grant from Cheshire East Council.
Friends of Stanley Hall Park requested just over £4000 in order to make improvements to the park including a picnic area, which will be paved and include picnic benches. This forms part of a longer, five year plan to improve the facilities of the park.
Cheshire East Council approved a community grant of £3000 towards the project and recommended that they seek support from other sources.
In recent months, Friends of Stanley Park have held a number of fundraising events, including a family fun day in May and performances by the Oakmere Singers, who are based at Oakmere Retirement Apartments on Spath Lane.
On Saturday, 1st August, they will be hosting a tuck shop at the Handforth Paddock Fair to aid their fundraising efforts. There will also be the opportunity to view the park plans and discuss ideas for park improvements.
Chair John Smith said "Friends of Stanley Hall Park would like to thank Cheshire East Council for the grant of £3000 which will partially fund the the purchase and installation of a picnic area with tables and seating within the park.
"The intention is to use the funds to ensure the picnic area is accessible to all visitors to the park with easy access to the tables for those families with pushchairs or wheelchairs. We are currently exploring different options and grants to secure the remaining funding.
"Subject to securing the extra funds required,we would hopefully start the work very soon with the assistance of local volunteers."
