Scarecrow season is almost here

Wilmslow will shortly be taken over by weird and wonderful straw creations which are sure to raise a smile amongst local residents and visitors to the town during the 15-day festival.

The 5th Wilmslow Rotary Scarecrow Festival kicks off on Saturday, 20th June, but we've already spotted our first scarecrow - Winston Churchill who is celebrating 70 Years since VE Day at Morley Nurseries.

Geoff Shelmerdine, organiser of the event with members of Rotary Wilmslow Dean said "Happily, the gusto with which Wilmslow Rotary Scarecrow Festival is supported by local businesses, schools and individuals, this very popular annual event is set to grow and grow and in doing so attract more people to shop in the town and raise much needed funds for local charities supported by Rotary."

Be sure to keep a look out as fabulous scarecrows, of all shapes and sizes, are starting to appear in shop windows, high on the rooftops and lurking in hidden corners.

The 2015 Wilmslow Rotary Scarecrow Festival runs from Saturday June 20th until Saturday July 4th, after which a selection of scarecrows will be on display at the Wilmslow Show on Sunday July 5th.

The not to be missed Scarecrow Parade will take place across the town centre on Saturday June 27th, at 11am and 2pm, with the Swaminarayan Gadi Pipe Band and the popular Scarecrow Treasure Hunt will be held again, so parents and children can have lots of fun seeking out the clues for the chance to win some great prizes.

As always, I will be touring the town taking photos for our scarecrow gallery but do send us your snaps to [email protected]. Click here to view for a reminder of the wonderful scarecrows from last year's festival.

Looking forward to these lovely creations. I was away last year and missed them.
