Watch out the scarecrows are about!

Some fabulous straw creations are starting to appear in the town centre ready for the launch of the 2014 Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival tomorrow (Wednesday 25th June).

Scarecrows of all shapes and sizes can be found hanging out on the streets, on display in shops windows, lurking in hidden corners and even positioned high on the rooftops.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean and Wilmslow Business Group this annual event brings lots of colour and fun to the town centre, as well as attracting plenty of visitors to Wilmslow during the 19-day event.

The festival ties in with Wilmslow's entry into the 2014 In Bloom competition, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with a 'Growing for Gold' theme - so many of the scarecrows have been given a golden touch!

New for this year, the Rotary scarecrow 'Recycled Ruth' is launching her own Selfie Photo Competition. From 25th June to 12th July, she will be popping up here, there and everywhere around the town ready for people to capture a prize winning 'Selfie' with her.

Email your selfie (high resolution please) to [email protected] for our gallery and the one judged to be the best will receive prize draw tickets and the chance to win a selection of great prizes, including a two day break in a luxury holiday home in Yorkshire.

Forms and maps for the Scarecrow Treasure Hunt will be available shortly from Wheeldon Opticians on Hawthorn Lane.

Above is a selection of scarecrows I spotted on my travels yesterday, we will be adding to the gallery during the course of the festival, as more scarecrows descend on the town.

If you have a scarecrow that isn't yet featured in the gallery please email your high resolution photos to [email protected].

If you are a business or organisation that hasn't yet made a scarecrow, there is still time to support this fantastic community event. The cost for entering is £20 for businesses and £10 for schools, all of which Rotary will use to support local good causes.

Make sure you look at the Brownies climbing up St Anne's church Nursery lane, sadly not in the gallery! They missed us last year too!!

Meryl - if you would like to send me a photo of the your scarecrows then I will gladly add it to the gallery.

I spent an hour and a half taking photos of scarecrows yesterday and another hour putting the gallery together - it's quite time consuming.

I run both wilmslow.co.uk and alderleyedge.com myself so unfortunately it is not possible for me to photograph all the scarecrows across the town as I don't have the time.

If you can send me a high resolution photo I will add it otherwise I will take one over the next couple of days. Regards Lisa
