Wilmslow should be well and truly buzzing this weekend

With only days to go excitement is building for Wilmslow's inaugural outdoor cinema event, taking place in the Carrs on the evening of Saturday 20th June.

Gates will open at 5.30pm for the 'Cinema on the Carrs' and entrance can be gained from either the Hawthorn Lane or Cliff Road entrance. The entertainment will start at 6.45pm with a performance from the Magic Voices choir. This will be followed by a screening of Mamma Mia the Movie, starting at 7.45pm. The show is scheduled to be over by 9.45pm so that families can attend.

Those attending are reminded to bring your own deckchairs, rugs and picnics but definitely no gazebos. A full bar service will be available along with a movie themed food court, both of which will be operating from 6pm.

Matthew Jackson, Town Clerk to the Wilmslow Town Council said "Never for one minute did we expect that our 'Cinema on the Carrs' initiative would gather such momentum. All over the town people are talking about it and planning their evening out at the cinema."

Along with Sunday's 'Party on the Carrs' and the Wilmslow Artisan Market during the day on Saturday - with over 120 of the finest artisans from around the region, a street food arena and entertainment throughout the day - this promises to be a very enjoyable and busy weekend.

On Sunday, 21st June, gates open at 12 noon and entertainment will commence from 12.15pm. Acts on the main stage this year will include sets by local recording artist Liam McClair, Folk/Rock band 'Lost in the Mist' along with performances from the Oakmere Singers, Alderley and Wilmslow Musical Theatre Company and school choirs. As well as the acts appearing on the main stage there will be arena performances from the Adlington Morris Men, the Cheshire Police Corps of Drums and various other groups throughout the afternoon.

Community stalls and children's entertainment, along with the bar and food court will be open from 12 noon. The afternoon is anticipated to end at about 5pm.

Matthew Jackson commented "We are delighted to announce that Dean Row Guides have agreed to help us host the inaugural Cinema on the Carrs on Saturday Night acting as official ushers. The Rotary Club of Dean Row have agreed to help steward the Party on the Carrs event for which we are very grateful and they will take on this role in addition to their exciting Teddy Bear record attempt on the day. The Wilmslow Clean Team are also actively involved and we very much welcome their help in returning the site to normal during and after the event."

This weekend also marks the start of the 2015 Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival so keep an eye out for those weird and wonderful straw creations.

Any members of the public wishing to volunteer to help on either 20th or 21st June should contact Matthew Jackson, Town Clerk on 01625 402907.

The events are free to attend and organisers are asking local residents to walk to both the 'Cinema & the Party on the Carrs' events, if at all possible, as car parking in the vicinity of the Carrs is limited.

Lindow Scouts are running a teas and cake stall on Sunday. The young people and some of the parents will be baking and also helping out on the day. We are an active scout group and will be happy to talk to you more about the things we get up to.

Wilmslow Cleanteam volunteers are having a stall on the day. Please come and see us and find out what we do. Our main priority as a group is to persuade people to take a pride in our town and take their litter home. Also to tidy up the area around thier home or business.
We will welcome any helpers on the day and provide the equipment needed, but more important come and have a chat.
