Plans confirmed for another free Party on the Carrs

This year's Party on the Carrs will take places on Sunday, 21st June, and is set to be bigger and better than previous years.

Wilmslow Town Council, who organise and sponsor this free community event, have confirmed that along with all the usual community events, stalls and societies, the acts on the main stage this year will include sets by local recording artist Liam McClair and Cheshire Folk/Rock band 'Lost in the Mist'. There will also be performances from the Oakmere Singers and school choirs.

In addition to the acts appearing on the main stage there will be arena performances from the Adlington Morris Men, the Cheshire Police Corps of Drums and various other groups throughout the afternoon.

Wilmslow Town Council Town Clerk Matthew Jackson said "As ever there will be lots going on for all ages away from the performance areas including an enhanced selection of childrens activities, a great Food and Drink Court and fabulous activities on the community stalls."

Along with an improved line up for the Sunday, the Council will be supporting a free outdoor cinema evening on the Carrs on the Saturday evening.

Matthew added "It is the Town Council's wish to continue and improve the annual 'Party on the Carrs'. This year by adding the 'Cinema on the Carrs' concept to the event it is hoped that the event will appeal to an even wider family audience. If this year is successful it is envisaged that the 'On the Carrs' concept can be developed to the benefit of the whole town and to embrace other new events."

It is amazing how many "free" events you get in an election year.

Why not ask some youthful bands from Wilmslow High School?

I'm greatly looking forward to this excellent event once again. Yes it's free, but I don't think it's anything to do with it being election year. I believe it's been free every year, correct me if I'm wrong. Of course, those dastardly conservatives might have been planning this for years, giving us free parties as a bribe to harvest our votes! Or they could just be representing the people of Wilmlsow, and trying to promote the community spirit. Depends on your level if cynicism, I suppose.

Tony - it is not "free". It only means there is no entrance fee. All households have paid for these events through the precept. Similarly the "free outdoors cinema". It will be ineresting to see if they subsequently have to award themeselves more for the cinema event since the same sum of money was allocated as last year.

Jackie. If residents are unhappy about having to pay for this and other great events in the town, they and you can vote with their feet and stay away. How democratic can you get on this of all days? If not enough people go the event it will not be repeated.

A grreat event that was originally launched by Friends of the Carrs on a much lower budget. Strange timing to announce it the day before polling day when I expect the date was agreed some time ago. It is actually very tardy to be announcing an event in June in early may, why leave it so late?
