Wilmslow Town Council has awarded a grant to enable a recently formed 'Friends' group to purchase litter picking equipment.
Friends of Lacey Green Park, who are currently meeting every other week and plan to hold litter picks at the park twice a year, applied for a grant of £1040 which was considered at the Town Council meeting on Tuesday, 22nd April.
Jackie Wiles, Treasurer, explained "We feel the park needs a bit of tender loving care. We've never done this before so we're just trying to get a small committee together and we really want to get the community involved, people on board to make it a nicer place for everybody."
Lacey Green's new town councillor Viveene Brooks proposed that the grant was awarded to what she described as a "worthwhile cause".
Vivenne said "It could create a very nice and useful facility for the community which I do feel over the years has been sadly neglected."
Cllr Ellie Brooks added "I think it's a very modest amount for the amount of work you're prepared to do."
Councillors voted unanimously to grant Friends of Lacey Green Park the £1040 they applied for which will also be used to purchase graffiti cleaner, insurance, register a domain name and have flyers and posters printed.
