Wilmslow Energy Partnership (WEP) will be offering local residents the opportunity to borrow an Energy Monitor from this Saturday, 12th April, to help them save money on their electricity.

The monitors will be stocked at Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge libraries and can be borrowed using the same system as books. Monitors will be issued to library members for the usual three week period and anyone who is not a member can join immediately.

They are easy to use and will help residents to better understand the costs of operating appliances in the home, showing where the most electricity is being used and how to make useful savings.

Wilmslow Energy Partnership is a new group that came together in November, to champion the reduction in the demand for energy locally. Activity is co-ordinated by the Cheshire East Partnership team and the partners include Cheshire Fire and Rescue Services, Groundwork Cheshire, Transition Wilmslow, Riverside Housing Association and Wilmslow and Handforth councils.

Chairman of the WEP, Rod Menlove said "Reducing energy consumption benefits us all and as Partners we aim to develop a programme of projects that makes a difference. Actions speak louder than words and we are launching our activity with the free availability of Energy Monitors. They will fill a knowledge gap, as we know from Transition Wilmslow surveys that lots of people have no idea how much each electrical appliance uses.

"We are very grateful for the cooperation of the library service and there will be publicity and information literature in the libraries. Other projects will follow."

Rod added "We set up the Group in November, meeting monthly and membership of the group has expanded. We would love to welcome additional partners who would benefit from our activities and add value to the work of the Group."
