Wilmslow Trust is inviting the residents of Wilmslow to nominate what they consider to be the best new or altered building to be completed in Wilmslow in 2013.

Nominations can be for commercial or residential buildings and the winning building will be chosen by a panel of members of the Wilmslow Trust committee - comprising of Ray Acton, a Wilmslow-born local historian, Chris Fasciato and Martin Hoyle, both of whom are architects, Chris still in practice and Martin now retired.

Christopher Dodson, Chairman of Wilmslow Trust said "Wilmslow Trust has decided to run this annual competition to encourage good design, given that architecture is a very public form of art and we feel design is not always given the importance it deserves."

The owner of the winning building will be presented with a plaque by Wilmslow Trust who very much hope they will choose to put it up on the building.

Buildings whose design is considered worthy of merit may be presented with a certificate. This year certificates were presented to Kenmore Medical Centre and Quorum Estates, the owners of 52 Alderley Road.

The panel reserves the right not to make an award if it considers that none of the buildings nominated merits one.

Please send nominations to Martin Hoyle, 2 Wilcott Drive, Wilmslow or email [email protected] to reach him by 28 February 2014.

Difficult to find a building in Wilmslow to nominate from the last 20 years - the town has been ruined with horrible soulless boxes....

I think there are some good new buildings in Wilmslow, but I'm not aware of any built in 2013. If I had to present the 'carbuncle' nomination it would go to the appalling eyesore that was built on the site of the old police station, next to the Catholic Church.

For the residential nomination, I suggest the pair of semi-detached houses, half way down Knutsford Road, which have recently been completed.

I would support Drew's nomination, the new houses opposite Ashdene Road are splendid. However I can't help feeling that the winner will turn out to be a re-furbished Peter Emerson Jones eye-sore 70/80s box-shaped office building in the town centre.
The "or altered" words in line two of this piece, plus the photo with the head of the Town Council planning commitee, seems to indicate that it's all a foregone ...
Oh please yourselves...

Peter. I believe the building you are referring too was last years winner.
