Everything in the garden is rosy for Chancellor's visit

Chancellor George Osborne was in town last week to acknowledge the work of Wilmslow Dean Rotary Club members in establishing a rose garden opposite St Bartholomew's Church.

The rose garden was created last year to commemorate the Queen's Jubilee and 75 years of the Rotary Club working for the local community.

Now in full bloom and looking beautiful, the 100 rose bushes, called Heart of Gold, were commissioned by Rotary from an Aberdeen rose grower and have already won national and international awards.

MP George Osborne said "Wilmslow Rotary has done a brilliant job in making the memorial gardens look so beautiful. I want to congratulate the Rotarians for all the planting and work they have done to make this part of the town look even more attractive."

The Chancellor also visited Wilmslow Animal Sanctuary to present a a £500 cheque on behalf of St.James' Place to the charitable organisation which provides a temporary home for cats, rabbits, ferrets and other small animals and birds.

He commented "It was a real pleasure to meet the staff and volunteers at the Animal Sanctuary who do a great job rescuing pets that are abandoned, and to present them with two cheques towards their funds."

George Osborne also took time to visit three new businesses in Bank Square: Hawthorn Deli, The Goal Post and Therapy Organics.

Speaking about the new businesses, George Osborne said "I am a great supporter of those who set out on their own to start a new business, and to see three new shops open in Wilmslow is a really encouraging sign. As the British economy moves from rescue to recovery I hope many more people will live out their dream of running their own business."

Whilst in the sports shop which specialises in football and rugby, the Chancellor purchased a Chelsea FC football and signed his name on their signature wall.

Owner Tate Jones said "I think it's great that Bank Square is on the up and that more and more are coming this far down the high street but we could do with more."
