Vacancy for town councillor

DSC_4604

Due to a resignation, a vacancy exists at Wilmslow Town Council for the Dean Row Ward of the town.

Joanne Milnes, who chaired the Community & Order Committee, stepped down on Monday 17th June for personal reasons.

The vacancy will be filled by election if, within fourteen days (excluding weekends and Bank Holidays) from 25th June, ten voters in the Wilmslow Dean Row Ward submit a written request for an election.

If this happens there will be a period of time for candidates to be nominated and if more than one candidate is nominated there will be an election.

If no such request is made, the vacancy will be filled by the Town Council, who will be at liberty to select who they wish, provided the person qualifies to be a councillor.

Any request for an election to be held to fill the vacancy must be in writing and sent to the Returning Officer, Cheshire East Borough Council, Westfields, Middlewich Road, Sandbach, CW11 1HZ not later than: 15 July 2013.

Attached is a copy of the notice and form which can be completed should you wish to request an election.

I have spoken with Cheshire East Council Elections Department this morning (15th July) and they have confirmed that more than ten voters in the Wilmslow Dean Row Ward have submitted a written request for an election. Therefore an election has been called for the 22nd August 2013. If you want to stand as a candidate then you will need to get a nominations pack from CEC. This can be obtained by contacting CEC Electoral Services on 01270 685922 (Direct Line) or 0300 123 5016 and . Nominations forms should be returned to the council no later than noon on Friday 26th July 2013.
