Residents put on fantastic scarecrow display

A group of residents from Sefton Drive have joined in with the Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival by putting together 11 of their own fantastic straw creations.

The lady behind the idea was Gretchen Dyson who gathered her neighbours together for a scarecrow making party.

Gretchen explained "I love making scarecrows and thought why not. The festival is marvellous and mainly downtown so I thought why not expand it. I rounded up the neighbours and they jumped right on board.

"We got together last Sunday, everyone came out at 11am. I had got a load of hay from Shentons and we all built the scarecrows at the same time and helped each other. All the kids came out and we had the best day. It was brilliant."

Gretchen is keen to expand on this next year and hopes that their adjoining neighbourhood have been inspired.

She added "We will definitely do it again next year, bigger and better. I would like to get more people involved along the main road and will give them more notice next year."

Geoff Shelmerdine, who organised the Wilmslow Scarecrow, totalled up the number of creations on display this year and confirmed we have a grand total of 128 scarecrows, including 37 new entrants.
