Scarecrows dance to the samba beat

A Grand Scarecrow Parade took place in the town centre today to celebrate the 2013 Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival.

If you were in Wilmslow at the time you couldn't have failed to hear the very loud Batala Drumming Band from Lancaster as they travelled through the town providing a very visual, loud and entertaining display.

They were joined on the parade by Rotary Robin and Rosie, two 12ft scarecrows made by rotarians Geoff Shelmerdine and Bernard Davies.

The Batala Drumming Band set off from Sainsbury's and made their way along Alderley Road and down Grove Street to Bank Square. Old and young lined the route to enjoy the performance and fantastic atmosphere.

If you missed the Grand Scarecrow Parade, they will be making another appearance at about 2.30pm, when they will set off from Bank Square and travelling up Grove Street, along Water Lane and back, crossing at Barclays Bank and back down Grove Street to finish at Bank Square.

The Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival continues until Sunday, 14th July, when it will culminate with a display of selected scarecrows at the Wilmslow Show.
