A vacancy has arisen at Wilmslow Town Council following the resignation of a representative of the Dean Row Ward.

Joanne Milnes, who chaired the Community & Order Committee, stepped down on Monday 17th June for personal reasons.

She said said "I have resigned as I feel due to work and personal commitments I can't give 100% as I have been doing to Wilmslow Town Council."

Cllr Keith Purdom, Chairman of Wilmslow Town Council, said "I was very disappointed when I was told about Jo Milnes resignation yesterday, she's been one of the leading lights on the Community & Order Committee and she's going out on a high after such a good event on Sunday the Picnic in the Park."

We understand that the vacancy will be filled by election if ten voters in the Dean Row Ward request an election, but if no such request is made the vacancy will be filled by the Town Council, who will be at liberty to select who they wish, provided the person qualifies to be a councillor.

The process is managed by CEC electoral services department so we will keep you informed once the timescales have been agreed.

Another one bites the dust. Councillors seem to have suddenly become personally overcommitted. Or could it be possible that the voters of Dean Row have made their views very plain to her. We do not want our green fields ruining and our lives disrupting. The safeguarded 24 acres of land at Adlington Road were taken out of the Green Belt by a government inspector in 1983 with the proviso that area could only be developed upon, if there were no other alternative brownfield sites available and that it be beneficial to the public hence the words used, - safeguarded land. There are alternative sites and It is not of benefit to Dean Row residents. Take note CEC.
