Party on The Carrs hailed 'really successful'

This weekend's Party on the Carrs was another great success, following on from the inaugural event last year which celebrated the Diamond Jubilee.

Once again the event enjoyed fine weather and lots of people made their way to The Carrs, threw down a picnic blanket and enjoyed the entertainment.

The Town Council, who organised and funded the event, were delighted to be able to join forces with Alderley District Scout Band on the occasion of their 50th anniversary and the live entertainment switched throughout the day from the stage to the parade ring and back again.

Wonderful community performance from Styal Brass, Move and Groove and the Alderley & Wilmslow Musical Theatre Company got the event off to a great start and as the community stalls and local food stalls enjoyed brisk trade Alderley District Scout band and visiting scout bands from Rhyl and Davyhulme prepared to perform in the parade ring.

Children enjoyed playing on the bouncy castles, taking part in the Girl Guiding games, face painting and visiting the many stalls - whilst the adults sat in the sun and were entertained by solo performances and the main stage act 'Slinky' who kept the party moving at a pace.

The event came to a fitting finale as past and present members of Alderley District Scout Band assembled and performed together for the enjoyment of all.

Back in April, Alderley District Scout Band invited past members of the band to join them and organise something special to celebrate their 50th anniversary. A 39 strong reunion band was put together, consisting of current competition band members, past members and trainees. They practised over six hours a week for the special day and Sunday was the culmination of all the hard work.

Steve French said "The day could not have gone better, the weather was good, and the people were there to watch us perform. We also had performances by Rhyl Youth Marching Band and 3rd Davyhulme Scout and Guide Band, who had come along to suuport us, and help us celebrate.

"We would like to thank everyone who made our 50th celebrations an overwhelming success."

Cllr Keith Purdom, Chairman, Wilmslow Town Council, said "Party on the Carrs was another really successful event, great entertainment, great weather and most pleasingly a great turnout. The Town Council have now organised and funded this event for the last two years and I am delighted that the time, effort and funding has once again produced an event that many Wilmslow residents have enjoyed attending.

"The event brought together a number of different local groups and I would like to thank them, all of the volunteers on the day and my council colleagues for helping make this event happen."

As a local resident I would prefer it if the music wasn't so loud! I really enjoyed listening to the scout band though.

It was a real pleasure to find The Carrs being enjoyed by so many people (how many hundreds of them?) in such pleasant weather !

Well done Wilmslow Council !
