Welcome to Wilmslow

Wilmslow Town Council has purchased six new boundary signs to announce entry into Wilmslow.

The sign on Woodford Road replaces an old one, which still referred to Macclesfield Borough Council, and the other five are located on entrance points into the town which were not previously marked, such as Alderley Road and Manchester Road.

The six signs cost £3900, plus installation costs.

At their meeting earlier this month, Wilmslow Town Council agreed to also install planters at the signs to improve their appearance. Summer plants will be planted shortly and the intention is to replace these with winter plants later in the year.

Cllr Jo Milnes, Chairman of Community and Order Committee, said "We bought the gateway signs to enhance Wilmslow as there was no signage to tell anybody they were actually arriving in Wilmslow."

I think they are nice, I wish people would stop moaning all the time.

I think the signs have an elegant simplicity and are indeed welcoming. Thank you Town Council!

Have to agree with Andy Morley, what a waste of money, when times are hard!
If people don't know they are in Wilmslow , I am sure they will when they look at there sat nav.
Spare a moment of your time and say what you think this £4000 could have been used on for the benefit of the people who live here, not those who are driving through.

The signs are smart and in keeping with the town. Worth every penny.

Looks great. We pay a lot of money in council tax and it is good to see the money being spent to make the town look smart for everybody's enjoyment. This works out at just about £ 0.10 per resident. Good value!
