Another three local talented acts have been signed up to appear at the Town's inaugural Music Festival.
John Mills, the chairman of the organising committee said "It is our aim to give as many of the local home grown acts a chance to showcase their talent at the Festival. These latest three bring the number of confirmed acts who have agreed to perform at the Festival in July to a total of 21."
He added "We are especially pleased that local brass band ensemble Styal Brass, 'Banned from the Room', a band formed by four Wilmslow High School sixth formers and the Wilmslow Community Choir, have all agreed to perform individual sets at the Festival. These three acts will add something different to the acts previously signed up and is consistent with our attempt to embrace all types of musical performers at the Festival."
Banned from The Room is a local band consisting of Andy (Guitar), Theo (Guitar), Rory (Percussion and vocals) and Astrid (Vocals). Each of the members in the band is currently a sixth form student at Wilmslow High School. The band have been performing together for six months now and have already appeared at numerous events at the High School and within the community, including recently playing for Jessica Ennis when she visited the school in April and entertaining the Wilmslow Business Group at their meeting earlier this week.
Styal Brass is a voluntary run brass ensemble consisting of children from the ages of 9 upwards who attend local schools in Wilmslow, Styal and the surrounding area. They regularly perform under the musical direction of Chris Gasson and recent appearances have included performances at the Alderley Edge Festival, the Wilmslow Reindeer Parade, as well as many local school and community events.
Wilmslow Community Choir comprises a group of local talented singers who have been brought together and schooled under the musical direction of Melanie Levy a renowned Cheshire choir leader. The choir repertoire embraces all types of music stretching from pop to choral classics.
John commented: "We are more than delighted with the current line-up of performers. We are now having to place any further artists who approach us to take part on to a reserve waiting list as we have reached capacity for our four stage areas.
"It has always been our intention to provide an evening of music for everyone – for people from 8 to 80 years old and we believe we now have a line up where something should appeal to everyone."
The Wilmslow Music Festival will take place on Friday 12th July, kicking off a week end of festivities in Wilmslow, which will also feature the Chapel Lane Street Party on the 13th and the 101st Wilmslow Show on Sunday 14th, having been preceded the previous Saturday (6th July) by the Wilmslow Dean Rotary Club's Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival and Parade.
