Wilmslow Town Council has agreed this week to provide community grants to support two more local organisations.

The first of which was for the Wilmslow Show which is one of the biggest single community events in Wilmslow.

Unfortunately last year's show had to be cancelled due to heavy rain which left the grounds waterlogged - but two years ago 7000 people attended.

This year the 101st Wilmslow Show will be held in the grounds of Wilmslow High School on Sunday 14th July.

Show organiser Frank McCarthy requested a grant of £1000 from the Town Council, explaining that they needed to find an extra £1000 for marquees this year, another £675 for music and £300 for the increased cost of insurance.

He also explained that they were aiming to have even more attractions to appeal to the people of Wilmslow, including additional performers in the arena - which for the first time will include a dressage display.

One of the big attractions of the Wilmslow Show is the RAF flypast which costs £1000.

Frank suggested that Wilmslow Town Council may wish to sponsor the RAF display but in the end they decided to provide a grant of £2675 to cover the cost of the Dakota flypast, additional music and marquees.

Secondly they approved a grant of £1480 for the Combined Charities Christmas Shop which is held at Wilmslow Library each year.

The annual pop-up charity shop is a well established feature of the Christmas season and enables people to support a variety of national and local charities.

Started over forty years ago by Sheila Hallas MBE, the organisation donates every penny spent on cards and has raised over £4 million for the participating charities.

The grant will be used to purchase a new till, debit card machine and replace the 42-year-old A boards which are rusty.
