Wilmslow CC 1st XI 260 all out beat Wilmslow Wayfarers 1st XI 133 all out

Cricket watchers were searching through their record books when Wilmslow the home side, were at 14 for 7 looking for a lowest ever score. Well it wasn't to be, indeed the record books have been rewritten but in terms of the league's highest ever, 10th wicket partnership.

This has got to be one of the biggest turn rounds in years, the catalyst, debutee Ross Kinnerley with a fantastic 130 no. Kinnerley firstly found support in Jags (34) and then skipper Patel (14) but his main ally in this remarkable rearguard action was no 11 Tom Rowe who made an awesome 63.

Wayfarers were shellshocked and understandably so, skipper Luke Unsworth with a very creditable 7 for 57 had done the early damage and then saw his own record breaking figures transformed into a very good rather than a spectacular return.

Kinnerley and Rowe had of course been picked for their bowling, something they do very well indeed. MOM Kinnerley did the most damage with six, Rowe got two and Wayfarers battled to 136 all out.

The victorious Squirrels travel to Rylands next week, presume ably with a revised batting line up.

Wilmslow CC 2nd XI 198 for 5 drew with Wilmslow Wayfarers 2nd XI 199 for 9

No less entertaining was the derby at Oakwood Farm. Electing to bat, Wayfarers used the full 48 overs to register an impressive 199. There were half centuries for Clinch and Henshall, and a lesson in leg spin bowling from Parmesh Gajjar. Gajjar took 7 for 40 getting both turn and bounce even when bowling around the wicket (apologies from the Chair).

The reply got off to a slow start as Keb bowled unchanged from one end, and caused problems for the visiting batsmen. With 10 overs to go 90 runs were needed. Enter hooker Harvey (see Cheshire U20's Rugby report) and vice captain Conniff. Boundaries were the order of the day and these guys not only found them, they cleared them. It was left to Conniff with 20 required off the last over, he scored 18, a remarkable effort and oh so close, as a four was inches from being a six.

A great game of cricket, played with great spirit between two competitive teams who will hopefully do well this season.
