Help needed to plant seeds at community garden

The Transition Wilmslow Food Group are inviting the community to take part in their first ever Seedy Saturday at the Temp Community Garden on Gravel Lane.

The Group will be holding a fruit and vegetable seed swap on Saturday 27th April, where people can bring along their surplus seeds and seedlings to swap with others. They will also be planting surplus seedlings in their newly built raised beds at the garden.

Planting in the Temp Community Garden began two years ago when Transition Wilmslow first planted ten fruit trees on the site with the help of Ashdene Primary School pupils and local councillors. Earlier this year the group used a grant which they had received from the Tudor Trust, via their Community Futures Project, and from the Wilmslow Yorkshire Building Society to build raised beds in preparation for planting in the Spring.

Garry Olson of the group commented "We're looking forward to a fantastic afternoon of planting at the garden and to swapping not only plants and seeds but also gardening knowledge and enthusiasm. The purpose of the garden has always been to provide not only an educational resource to encourage others to grow their own, but also to create a treasured community garden for everyone to enjoy and we really encourage Wilmslow residents to come along and get involved. We'd like to thank the Tudor Trust and the Yorkshire Building Society for their welcome grant which has enabled us to progress the project."

The Transition Food Group welcomes new members to join, they meet on the fourth 4th Wednesday of each month. For more information visit the Transition Wilmslow website or email [email protected].

Seedy Saturday will take place at 2pm on Saturday 27th April.
