New benches for Little Lindow

Wilmslow Town Council has agreed to purchase new benches for Little Lindow.

There are currently three benches around the perimeter of the green space which are in a dreadful condition, caused by years of neglect and the shade of the large trees above. It appears that there used to be 4th bench which has disappeared.

Having contacted Cheshire East Council, who own and maintain the space, the Town Council were informed that there is no plan or budget to replace these benches. CEC has agreed to try to clean them but the Town Council decided that replacing them was a better option.

Matthew Jackson, Town Clerk, explained "I suggested we consider the purchase of replacement benches for this site and due to the environment in which these benches sit, I would suggest that an easy clean / low maintenance product would be most suitable, such as plaswood, made from recycled polythene."

The Town Council has agreed to purchase four plaswood backed benches for Little Lindow which will cost in the region of £1200, plus delivery and fitting.

Has the town council approached any local businesses? The play area at south oak lane got 3 benches and a picnic table supplied for free paid for by local companies. The price was less than £1000 as well.

I tend to agree with you martin. That's why I am looking a setting up a Friends of Little Lindow Group in the very near future. Watch this space.

£300 per seat is a lot of money !
I think Martin is on the right lines, but it's probably worthwhile to spend a bit more money than he suggests by using "plastic wood" instead of natural wood.

Unfortunately just errecting new benches or allowing voluteers to supply bench parts would involve risk assessments and health and safety inspections. These cost money, and are a waste of time!,but we have to have them, so thats where the ridiculous cost comes from.
