Work has taken place this week to clear the pathway for passengers walking from the station into town.
At the official opening of the £500,000 station refurbishment earlier this month both Northern Rail and local councillors said that they were looking at more ways to improve passenger journeys, including safer walking routes to and from Wilmslow and better signage.
A first step has taken place this week with the removal of vegetation and mound of soil from the leisure centre side of Station Road, near the pedestrian crossing, which created a visual obstruction for those walking into Wilmslow.
Rod Menlove, local councillor and chairman of the station improvement working group, said "This is a simple enough piece of work and gives the immediate benefit of total visibility of the better and now obvious walking route in to the centre of Wilmslow. It takes passengers from the Station Road pedestrian crossing to the Alderley Road pedestrian crossings and that must be a contribution to long term safety.
"We do need improved signage at the station and in Wilmslow and that is under consideration. The working group will continue to meet and we are keen on further improvements to walking routes as well as cycling and bus facilities."
Photo shows the vegetation has been cleared and the soil levelled, with a lorry load of soil left to be removed.

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
On a broader point, the station improvements have brightened the place up, but a negative and uneccessary aspect of them is the loss of the temporary free parking spaces in front of the station. They were invaluable for picking up and dropping off rail passengers, especially those who may be elderley or carrying heavy luggage. Can we have them back, please?
Filling potholes in the road would be a better use of our money.
