A new fishmongers has opened on Grove Street in the premises previously occupied by Barnardos.
Northwest Fishmongers of Wilmslow is a new venture for brothers-in-law Simon Nolan and Tommy Garbett, who are joined in the business by Tommy Garbett junior.
Also serving behind the counter is trainee Thomas Hawthorn aged 23.
Tommy Garbett will be a familiar face to local fish lovers having previously worked at the fishmongers on Chapel Lane, and prior to that he spent 10 years working at Smithfield Market.
Simon Nolan, who worked in sales for 15 years, told me "It has been absolutely crazy since we opened on Thursday. It has generated a lot of interest. A lot of high streets are dying, they need a new lease of life in them."
Simon added "I was looking for a shop and thought the residents of Wilmslow would appreciate good fish. We've got one of the best fishmongers in South Manchester and we're trying to keep prices low."
The next development will be to open a restaurant upstairs in about six weeks time and they are also applying for planning permission to install a ramp to provide easier access to the shop.
Northwest Fishmongers will be open Tuesdays to Saturdays and will also be offering a free delivery service up to 5 miles.
