Wilmslow Christmas Lights Switch On 2012

The Wilmslow Christmas lights will be switched on tomorrow evening, Thursday 29th November.

This year's celebrations will kick off with Santa and his real reindeer parading through the town.

The parade, led by Styal Brass and featuring the Alderley and Wilmslow Musical Theatre Company, will depart from Sainsbury's at 6.15pm and proceed along Alderley Road, via the service road, and down Grove Street to Bank Square where the stage will be set up.

First on stage will be Wilmslow Rock Choir, at approximately 6.15pm, followed by the cast of Aladdin who are performing at Stockport Plaza, including nasty Nick Cotton from Eastenders (John Altman) as well as choirs from Wilmslow High School and Lacey Green Academy.

The evening's entertainment will culminate in the switching on of the Christmas lights at approximately 7.30pm and a final song performed by the choirs.

The event is being organised by the Town Council and Wilmslow resident Erik Garner will be compere for the evening.

The forecast is dry for tomorrow night but cold so wrap and warm and enjoy the festive celebrations.

A few roads in the town centre will be closed at times for the Christmas lights switch on.

Grove Street and Grove Avenue, from its junction with Grove Street to its junction with Grove Way, will be closed from 10am until 9pm.

Green Lane will also be closed from its junction with Grove Street to Bank Place Apartments (entrance to car park), between 5pm and 9pm.

Access for pedestrians, emergency vehicles and residents will be maintained at all times.
