The planting of a Jubilee Wood for Wilmslow started at The Carrs this week.

Volunteers from The Friends of the Carrs, Incredible Edible and Transition Wilmslow are working together to transform an area behind the old tennis courts into a woodland.

On Wednesday, 14th November, Cllr Jim Crockatt, Chairman of Wilmslow Town Council planted a special Woodland Trust Jubilee Oak tree sapling grown from an acorn collected from one of the Royal Estates.

During the week around 40 saplings, including some fruit trees, were planted. Most of the saplings have been donated by the voluntary groups involved in the project, and some saplings have been transplanted from Lindow Common. Next Spring a further 30 saplings will be planted, these will be donated by the Woodland Trust.

Colin Shepherd said "The Friends of the Carrs are delighted to have been able to work with the Town Council and other groups in the town to develop a Jubilee Wood and give a purpose to a rather ignored area of The Carrs. Establishing the wood has been a good community effort."
