The redraft of the controversial Wilmslow Town Vision has now been published which sets out how Wilmslow will develop over the next 18 years, including the proposed number of new houses which should be built in the town.

The purpose of this document, now entitled the Wilmslow Town Strategy, is to reflect and summarise the views of the local community and establish a vision for Wilmslow.

The Wilmslow Town Strategy is informed by a two month public consultation, held in April and May this year, to which 1446 responses and four petitions were received.

This document sets out the vision and objections, potential housing and other development opportunities and priorities for investment in infrastructure.

Areas covered within the document include; housing; economy and employment; town centre; community; transport and movement and environment, sustainability and design.

However, following the public consultation the element that is likely to be of most interest to local residents will be the suggested number of new homes to be built in Wilmslow by 2030.

The suggested number of new homes to be built in the town during the next 18 years has been reduced from 1500, as suggested in the Draft Wilmslow Vision, to around 400.

It is stated in the document that this should be achieved without building on any existing green belt land, whilst the potential for development on brownfield sites should be maximised.

The strategy proposes that the building of one and two bedroomed accommodation, for use as starter or retirement homes and affordable homes for key workers, should be prioritised. It also states that the area of green space off Adlington Road currently classified as 'safeguarded land' should retain its status as 'safeguarded land' in the Cheshire East Local Plan until at least 2025.

This document will inform the new development plan for Cheshire East, called the Local Plan which will guide the future planning and development of towns and villages up to 2030. It will replace the Macclesfield Local Plan in 2013.

Wilmslow Town Council will discuss this Town Strategy and consider adopting it at their meeting on Monday, 19th November. The public are welcome to attend the meeting which will take place at 7.30pm at The Oakenclough Centre on Colshaw Drive.
