The Chancellor visited the Combined Charities Christmas Shop at Wilmslow library on Friday, 2nd November.

For the 11th consecutive year George Osborne visited the charity card shop, which is run by Wilmslow resident Sheila Hallas MBE.

Sheila said "Ever since he has been MP George Osborne has come and visited us which is very kind of him with such a busy schedule.

"Not only does he come but he purchases gifts from us because we have some unusual and reasonably priced gifts for both children and adults."

Sheila Hallas started the charity shop in 1971 and since then they have raised over £4 million for the participating charities. Everybody working for the organisation is a volunteer and profits from the sale of gifts go towards covering the overheads - so that every penny from the sale of cards goes to the charities.

George Osborne said "I was delighted to again meet the volunteers selling cards and gifts at Wilmslow Library for local and national charities. It sums up the spirit of Christmas and is a credit to all involved. I would urge anyone in the area who wants to buy Christmas cards to visit the library."

The Combined Charities Christmas Shop is open during library opening times until Saturday 8th December selling cards, gifts, paper, toys and stocking fillers.
