Wilmslow has picked up two awards at the RHS North West in Bloom awards presentation held in Southport on Thursday, 25th October.

In their first year of entry Wilmslow has received a 'Highly Commended Award' from the chairman Bill Blackledge for the overall competition across the North West. Additionally in their category, competing against other similar sized towns in the North West, they received a 'Silver Medal Award' in the Best Large Town Category.

Wilmslow chose an 'edibles' theme this year and twenty one businesses took part, making the front of their premises look good enough to eat. Volunteers from community groups, including Incredible Edible, Wilmslow Business Group and Wilmslow Town Council, all worked hard to make the town bloom.

Helen Yates, who launched Incredible Edible Wilmslow, told wilmslow.co.uk "We are so proud of what has been achieved in Wilmslow in what is only our first year of entering the competition. It is a credit to all the volunteers hard work, the council's support and those incredible businesses who joined in this year by making their premises look so good.

"I'd like to personally thank Steve Kennedy, whose idea it was to enter and who helped to promote, sponsor and constantly encourage us to do well.

"We'll certainly be entering again next year and hopefully more volunteers and even more businesses will join in so that we can go for gold!!"

The North West in Bloom competition aims to encourage local communities to improve and care for their environment through imaginative planting of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping, conservation and recycling projects, and to sweep away eyesores that blight our streets such as litter, graffiti and vandalism.

Helen added "We will be receiving our town's feedback portfolio from the judges soon and this will give us guideance on how to improve for next years entry. We will add a reduced version of this to the website, so that people can see how they might help out next year."
