Four 11 year old Junior Recycling Officers from Ashdene Primary school have won the coveted first prize in the Wilmslow Scarecrow Competition for schools.

Competing against eight other schools, playgroups and day nurseries and guided by their school display assistant, Sian Barnes, the team used their imagination and recycled products to create two 'class mates' for their winning exhibit.

In presenting the winners trophy and certificate at their school assembly, Geoff Shelmerdine from the Wilmslow Dean Rotary Club congratulated the pupils.

He said, "This year has been a very difficult task to find an outright winner in this group as the standard has been very high. It is obvious that you take recycling very seriously and for this we are pleased to reward your efforts. The team are also in the final of the School's Recycling Officers of the Year Competition.

Second place went to Wilmslow High School and third place to Tumbletots Nursery at Pownall Hall School.
