Nearly 700 responses have been received to the public consultation on the Draft Wilmslow Vision Document so far.

Following discussions and workshops with local stakeholders, a public consultation began on Friday, March 30th, offering the people of Wilmslow the opportunity to have their say on draft proposals to shape the future development of the town over the next 20 years.

The Draft Wilmslow Vision shows potential proposals for boosting the town centre environment, improving transport connections and priorities for investment in the town's infrastructure.

However, the most controversial element of the draft plan without doubt has been the suggestion that 1500 new homes will be built in Wilmslow, largely on green belt land, by 2030.

Cheshire East Council is in the process of developing a number of Town Strategies for areas across the Borough and the Wilmslow Vision will be one of a collection of key documents to be used by Cheshire East Council when developing the new Cheshire East Local Plan.

Matthew Jackson, clerk of Wilmslow Town Council said "Whilst delighted by the initial numbers received, which already far exceed those received in response to similar consultations in Congleton, Sandbach, Alsager and Middlewich, Wilmslow Town Council welcome and expect many more.

"The document is deliberately designed to encourage comment so that the final version that will feed into the new Cheshire East Plan can truly reflect the views of the people of Wilmslow and so that there is a strong evidence base for what supported and is retained from the 'draft' Vision and what is ultimately removed or changed."

The public consultation for the Draft Wilmslow Vision was initially intended to run for one month, however it was extended for another month, until May 31st, to enable as many local residents as possible to have their say on the draft proposals.

The exhibition in the leisure centre will continue until May 31st. In addition the exhibition will be taken to two other venues in the town where manned sessions will be held.

On Wednesday 16th May the exhibition will be at Dean Row Village Hall on Browns Lane from 5.15pm until 7.30pm.

The following day, Thursday 17th May, the exhibition will be at St Johns Church Rooms on Knutsford Road from 5pm until 7.30pm.

Representatives from Wilmslow Town Council, Cheshire East Council and Broadway Malyan are expected to be available at both exhibitions to answer any questions.
