Following publication of the Draft Wilmslow Vision, a group of Wilmslow residents have set up an ePetition calling on the council to reject proposals to grant planning permission for any new houses in Dean Row.

The petition has been organised by Friends of Dean Row, a group of residents who have come together to represent the views of people living in that area of town, following fears that hundreds of new homes could be built on green belt land in the Dean Row area - as a result of proposals in the Draft Wilmslow Vision document.

Signatories to the petition are calling for no houses to be built in areas Ba, Bb, Bc, Ha and Hb, as proposed on the map above (taken from the draft document) and for all green belt to be retained in these areas. They are also requesting that area Bc be returned to safeguarded status.

The ePetition has been promoted to those who attended a protest meeting held at Dean Row Village Hall on April 20th, as well as by word of mouth.

Martin Lewis, of Browns Lane, said "The petition has been set up by popular demand. We've been flooded with emails from residents who have seen the shocking background to the Wilmslow Vision process on our Friends of Dean Row website.

"They want to express their opposition to the plans for Dean Row in the clearest and most direct way possible, and in a way that doesn't depend upon how the responses to the questionnaire are interpreted.

"The aim is to save this critical area of Green Belt which helps to separate Cheshire East from Greater Manchester and Stockport, and to prevent the village of Dean Row from being subsumed into an encroaching urban sprawl."

The ePetition runs until June 30th and can be signed on the Cheshire East Council website where further information about the petition is available.

Organisers are hoping that by reaching at least 100 signatures the head of the relevant department at the council will be made aware of the matter. At the time of writing 53 people have signed the ePetition.

Residents of Fulshaw, Upcast Lane and Welton Drive have also held meetings recently to voice their anger and concern over proposals to build up to 1500 new homes in Wilmslow by 2030. These residents groups are now uniting to create one voice for the whole town, rather than small individual areas.

Further details regarding the new combined group will be published on wilmslow.co.uk shortly.

Readers can download the draft Wilmslow Vision document which is attached here, along with a copy of frequently asked questions and the questionnaire.

The deadline for submitting the questionnaire is now Thursday 31st May.

One questionnaire can be submitted per person, it is not restricted to one per household.
