Following on from the success of the previous two years, plans are underway for the 2012 Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival.
It is time for businesses to start thinking creatively to show that Wilmslow has the 'Scarecrow Factor' as entries are now open for Wilmslow's third Scarecrow Festival.
Set to be bigger, bolder and boisterous the target this year is for 200 scarecrows, of all shapes and sizes, to be on display around the town from Friday June 22nd until Sunday 8th July.
Wilmslow Dean Rotary Club in partnership with Wilmslow Business Group will again attempt to raise the profile of Wilmslow to attract a higher footfall and increase business whilst providing a really fun event for families to enjoy.
Rotarian and local businessman Geoff Shelmerdine, who came up with the idea, said "The event now spans 17 days and with so much going on this year, Queens Jubilee and Olympic Games, there should be no problem thinking up a theme for your scarecrow.
"All monies raised are used by the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean in the community to support local charities and worthy causes."
All types of businesses can participate in the Scarecrow Festival, from street level and above, to churches, police, fire service, schools, the library, railway station and local pubs. Entry per scarecrow is £20 and 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes are available for the best business and school scarecrows.
Throughout the festival a treasure hunt will be available across the town for families to take part and the Grand Scarecrow Parade with the Batala Drumming Band, which was fantastic last year, will take place on Saturday 30th June.
The festival will culminate with a grand display of selected scarecrows at the Wilmslow Show on Sunday 8th July where the final judging will take place.
If you would like to enter the Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival 2012, all you need to do is produce a scarecrow out of straw or paper mache and display it inside or outside of your business. Call Steve on 07766 405301 or Geoff on 07760 194788 for further information.

If they do the same this year it is worth putting in your diary and making the trip to see it - our kids loved it. If you missed it last year take a look at http://bit.ly/JqvMu0
