A special service will be held at St. Bartholomew's Church to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The service is being organised by Wilmslow resident Khumi Burton as an acknowledgement of the life and the work of Her Majesty, the Queen.

Khumi told wilmslow.co.uk "The reason I am organising this for all of us in Wilmslow to appreciate what Her Majesty the Queen has done for this Country. I was very privileged to be there when HRH visited Manchester a few weeks ago. She was charming, radiant and never showed any sign of tiredness even though she has done a good stint from morning to mid afternoon – visiting hospitals, Media City, Manchester Town Hall and the garden which was erected inside the G-Mex.

"She was just marvellous. So this is a tribute to her endless enthusiasm and encouragement. I am very proud to be living in this country and I feel that by having this Celebration Service we are acknowledging her as an example for all of us in a small way to follow. I am doing it as a long time resident of Wilmslow.

"I hope the Church will be full because at the end of the day it is once in a lifetime celebration service. It is not going to come in any one's life time for years to come."

Khumi will be inviting Wilmslow town councillors, Cheshire East councillors who live in Wilmslow, Deputy Lieutenants of Cheshire, the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, the High Sheriff of Cheshire, Chief Constable of Cheshire, local Mayors, our MP George Osborne and Maccesfield MP David Rutley.

Voluntary organisations, representatives of charities who have been involved with the August Bank Holiday Street Party which Khumi also organises, members of the Wilmslow Business Group and businesses in Wilmslow will also be invited along with people from Churches Together of Wilmslow, the British Legion, Scouts and heads of the local schools.

Khumi said "But through wilmslow.co.uk, I would like to extend invitations to everyone to come along as it is not for the dignitaries but for all of us.

"I would also like people to let me know of any couples who are celebrating their Diamond Anniversary in 2012. Once names, address and contact details are sent to me, they will be invited."

The service will be led by Rev Dr. Paul Smith and it is hoped, if funding allows, to have a Order of Service produced as a souvenir of the event.

Khumi added "Let's make it a day for all of us to remember in the years to come.

"On this occasion it is appropriate to wear uniform, medals, decorations and hats."

The Celebration Service for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee will be held at St. Bartholomew's Church on Sunday 24th June at 3 pm, guests are requested to be seated by 2.45 pm.
