A romantic comedy armed with chocolate

Arms and the Man

Wilmslow Guild Players' next production is George Bernard Shaw's classic "Arms and the Man". The play runs from 28th to 31st March at Wilmslow Guild, the adult education centre on Bourne Street.

This romantic comedy sees the wife and daughter of a Bulgarian Major conspiring to hide an enemy soldier. The soldier is a very practical man, who carries chocolate instead of bullets and scoffs at foolish heroics. The play is one of Shaw's most popular comedies, full of secrets, confusions, discoveries and surprises.

The production is being directed by Guild Players member Owen Le Blanc, who has a great deal of experience of both directing and acting over many years with the Players. He said "The play has a number of comic moments and some serious moments as wel. I think this is one of Shaw's best plays, and has a lot of opportunity for teamwork between the actors."

The Guild Players are fortunate in having a strong cast, who bring a lot of skills and enthusiasm to the production.

Owen added "They are working very well as a team and helping each other to get the most out of the play. In order to be a successful production I believe this play needs to convince the audience that the characters are real, and that their actions are believable under the circumstances. I hope that we will achieve that and that our audience will enjoy themselves. But we also hope they might learn something about themselves and the world as well."

The play runs from 28th to 31st March at Wilmslow Guild on Bourne Street. Tickets cost £6 and can be booked by calling 01625 520126 or emailing [email protected].
