The final preparations are being made for the Wilmslow Christmas lights switch on, which will take place at Grove Street tomorrow, Friday 25th November.

Wilmslow is set to sparkle as the Town Council have purchased new Christmas lights for Grove Street, Alderley Road and Water Lane, which will be switched on by last year's X Factor finalists Diva Fever.

Speaking about Wilmslow's new lights, Councillor Ruth McNulty said "They will light Wilmslow as well as it's ever been lit."

Imagine FM will host this festival event with a packed schedule of live performances.

Paul Taylor, Chief Executive of Imagine FM, said "We are really excited about what promises to be a fantastic night. We have a packed stage schedule with 10 acts and it will be an event that Wilmslow will be proud of."

Entertainment for the crowds begins at 3.30pm when Lacey Green Junior School Choir take to the stage followed by performances from Clague and Green Dance School, local rock band Forever and A Day and teen sensation Hatty Keane from Macclesfield.

New boyband Juice, jazz singer Alexander Stewart and Re Connected, from Britain's Got Talent 2009, will also be performing before the headline act Diva Fever takes to the stage.

The programme for the 2011 Wilmslow Christmas lights switch on is:

  • 3.30 Lacey Green Junior School Choir
  • 4.00 Clague and Green Dance School
  • 4.20 Forever and A Day
  • 4.45 Hatty Keane
  • 5.00 Dance at the Smithy
  • 5.15 Juice
  • 5.45 Alexander Stewart
  • 6.10 Re Connected
  • 6.40 Diva Fever
  • 7.00 Lights Switch On Diva Fever and Father Christmas
  • 7.10 Clague and Green Dance School
  • 7.25 Rock Choir

The lights switch is only the start of the Wilmslow Christmas Festival, providing ten days of entertainment, festivity and fun in the town centre.

The festival includes the Christmas Market, with over 70 continental and artisan traders, an open mic stage where performers can entertain the crowds, an ice-rink, Santa's Grotto and lots more.

Organiser Denise Valente told me this evening "The set up is all going very well. It's extremely exciting to see it all come together. It is going to look amazing and I just hope the people of Wilmslow enjoy it.

"It is going to be make Wilmslow feel really Christmassy and we hope the local retailers will benefit from the influx of visitors and residents will have a good reason to stay here in Wilmslow for their Christmas shopping, rather than visiting out of town venues."
