With less than 4 weeks until the Wilmslow Christmas Festival, plans have been finalised for the 10 day extravaganza.

Celebrations will kick off on Friday 25th November when Wilmslow's new Christmas lights will be switched on.

The event, hosted by Imagine FM, will see Diva Fever, from last year's X Factor, perform alongside boyband Juice, Hattie Keane from Macclefield and local groups.

A Christmas market, consisting of approximately 70 continental and artisan traders, all offering seasonal foods, drinks and gifts, will also start on November 25th. The market will be positioned along the service road parallel to Alderley Road, stretching from Sainsbury's to MultiYork.

Santa's Grotto will be located in the Romany caravan, near Wilmslow Library where the Combined Charities Christmas Shop is open until Saturday 10th December selling cards, gifts, paper, toys and stocking fillers.

Back by popular demand, an ice rink will be positioned on Bank Square and new for this year a carousel, trampolines and other children's rides will be located on Parsonage Green.

Other events during the festival will include a Carol Concert on Sunday 4th December, organised by Churches Together in Wilmslow, which will take place outside the Santa's Grotto. The churches Christmas Tree Festival will be run to coincide with the Christmas Festival as will a Snowman hunt which is being organised by Wilmslow High School.

Wilmslow Business Group have been working on plans for the bumper Christmas Festival since January.

Organiser Denise Valente, explained "The aim is to offer the community a festive, seasonal experience right here in the town. By doing so we hope local retailers will benefit from the huge influx of visitors and the residents will be provided with an exceptional reason to stay here in Wilmslow rather than visiting out of town venues."

Denise added "The Christmas Festival is a fabulous opportunity for the businesses to show their appreciation to their clients and customers and provide an event that will inject incredible energy and festive feel in the town on the run up to Christmas.

"In order to put together such an amazing community event the business group have already raised over £8,000 in sponsorship and funding to cover the costs of this non-profit making exercise but we are still looking for more sponsorship."
