Friends of The Carrs are in need of new members to take an active role in the group.

The Friends were formed in 2004 with the aim of protecting, maintaining and enhancing The Carrs for the residents of Wilmslow and visitors. They work with Cheshire East Council, the Environment Agency and other appropriate bodies as required in order to achieve this goal.

The group of volunteers have had a good year, which has seen a new bridge installed to replace the dangerous wooden bridge, river bank repairs and further planting of trees and wild plants.

They have also made significant progress with bringing the Himalayan Balsam under control but they now need more people to join their committee which meets monthly, apart from August and December.

Colin Shepherd, chair of Friends of the Carrs, said "We do need more active members, it doesn't have to be a lot, any help will be gratefully received but unless more people are prepared to become involved future progress will be in jeopardy.

"We need people to take part in the working parties we organise for such things as litter clearance in the spring, Balsam clearance through the summer and sometimes other work like putting up bird boxes and helping with river bank erosion control works.

"You do not have to be muscle bound or super fit, a willingness to muck in and just contribute what you can is more important. It is good fun and healthy outdoor exercise."

The Friends of the Carrs are holding their AGM at 3pm on Sunday 16th October, this will be proceeded by a Nature walk with an East Cheshire ranger. Anyone interested in joining the walk should meet at the Parish Hall car park at 2pm and if you are interested in joining the group, or require further information email Colin Shepherd.
