Pownall Hall enjoys festival success

AEF Winners 2011

Pownall Hall School boasts a tradition of excellence in performing arts and at this year's Alderley Edge Festival, many of its children once again enjoyed tremendous success.

The annual event has long been a fixture in the calendar at Pownall Hall and as Headmaster Jonathan Hall explained, it was very gratifying to see the efforts of all who took part rewarded with such good results: "It has been a rewarding Festival for us and one which we all enjoyed immensely. We are justifiably proud of the creativity and confidence exhibited by our pupils. In addition to the wonderful performances given by school's junior and senior choirs our children also earned nine winners' trophies for their performances, with five more second places and five thirds."

Pownall Hall School once again produced some star performances with 8 of their pupils gaining first place in the Speech and Drama awards.

Grace Haworth and Grace Morrison in year 4 won first place for their duologue of 'Winnie the Pooh', while Eve Cressey, Evie Butler Smith, Sophie Holder and Charlotte Jeffries in year 5 won with the dramatised verse of 'The School Nurse' by Allan Ahlberg. The girls also performed in the Festival Finale at the Festival Hall on Saturday, May 14th.

Charlotte Jeffries won the Carson Kennedy cup and Ethan Cahill won the Lee cup for their set poems, second place was well deserved by Sophie Ghorbanian and third places were earned by Francesca Hyder, Anna Morrison, Joe Butler Smith and Tom Holder.

The music awards also provided the individual children with well deserved success. First place went to Francesca Hyder in a vocal duet (year 9 and under). Second places were awarded to Charlotte Jeffries and Eve Butler Smith for their duet and Francesca Hyder for her solo performance. Whilst third place was awarded to Isabel Hall for her singing solo.

Looking back on a successfull event for the school, Jonathan concludes: "Much as the children rightly take the limelight, I must also mention the support and expertise of our music and drama teachers, Miss Griffiths and Mrs Anderson, which has been outstanding. Everyone involved deserves great credit and we are already looking forward to next year's event."
