Wilmslow High School are running a Literacy Awareness Week, which commenced on Monday, 28th February. The aim of the week is to make students aware of the importance of their literacy skills, which they use in all subjects and throughout life.

To celebrate the week, many different activities have taken place such as, a creative writing competition, a book quiz extravaganza, a poetry and creative writing night and an author visit from Jon Blake who wrote 'The Last Free Cat'.

Students also decorated the Learning Resource Centre in a literary theme, were provided with free World Book Day tokens and the school ran a competition offering the opportunity to win a day out of school for the tutor group simply by reading a good book.

On Monday, 28th February, 50 red balloons with the details of students' favourite books were launched. If you find one please use the comment box below to let us know how far it went!

Organisers Kathryn Ingham (English teacher) and Nicola Tully (Learning Resource Centre Manager) said "We are so pleased with the success of Literacy Week! We had a fantastic response from staff and students; the whole school was involved, which made it a very memorable and beneficial week for all concerned."
