Kids cook up a storm on cooking bus

Children and adults from Wilmslow and the surrounding area enjoyed getting hands on with food on the cooking bus during its recent visit to Gorsey Bank Primary School, a Food for Life Partnership Flagship School.

Cooking buses are huge specialist built articulated lorries which open out in to spectacular purpose built kitchens and classrooms. They are staffed by qualified food teachers who deliver practical lessons to young people and the wider community and training for teachers, youth workers and health professionals.

Our sessions covered key aspects of food education from food preparation skills to nutrition, food safety and hygiene - but above all, both young and old were taught how to cook.

Even catering staff from Gorsey Bank Primary School, and other Partnership schools, couldn’t resist taking a ‘Busman’s Holiday’ and joined in with the cooking activities.

The Big Lottery is funding the Food for Life Partnership, which includes the dedicated Cooking Bus run by Focus on Food. This Cooking Bus will visit all 180 flagship schools in England.
