Young people in Wilmslow are being warned to stay on the right track.

The call comes from British Transport Police (BTP) and Cheshire Police who have recently had to deal with a number of anti-social behaviour incidents in and around the rail station.

BTP officers have received several reports from rail staff and passengers of young people behaving in an anti-social manner at the stations and on the line between Wilmslow and Alderley Edge.

This has ranged from relatively low-level nuisance behaviour to altercations involving large groups of youngsters.

Now, in a bid to combat the problem, BTP and Cheshire Police will be working together to provide a high profile presence in the area.

BTP Chief Inspector Graham Bamford said: "Anti-social behaviour is a real concern for us and for rail staff and passengers. It has been identified as a priority and we will be increasing patrols in the area to deal with the youths causing problems.

"We are liaising with colleagues from Cheshire Police's Neighbourhood Policing Unit and will be working together to develop lasting solutions to the problems faced."

Inspector Matt Welsted, head of Cheshire Police's Wilmslow NPU said: "We recognise anti-social behaviour has a very real affect on people's lives and we are dedicated to taking action to prevent it.

"We're keen to work alongside our colleagues in British Transport Police and Cheshire East Council to address the root cause any of any incident reported to us.

If you have any information about anti-social or criminal behaviour at either Wilmslow or Alderley Edge stations please call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
