Snowmen on parade in Wilmslow

As part of their 50th anniversary and festive celebrations Wilmslow High School have organised a Snowman Parade in the town centre.

Seventeen Wilmslow businesses have taken delivery of generic polystyrene snowmen, varying in size from 1 foot to 4 feet tall, which they will decorate in their own style. These will be on display in shop windows around the town, I noticed a few have already appeared but others will be joining them over the coming days.

Then for one day only, all of the snowmen, 18 in total, will be on display together at the high school Christmas Market on December 11th. A winner will be selected at the Christmas Market and people will be able to buy treasure hunt forms which lead them around the town centre in search of the snowmen. Each snowman has their own name for the children to discover.

Teacher Caroline Baines, "We decided that it would be nice to involve local businesses in our school's 50th anniversary celebrations alongside Christmas and came up with the idea of the Snowman Parade, similar to the Cow Parade that was held in Manchester."

The Wilmslow High School Christmas Market is being managed and co-ordinated by a team of year 13 students who are all hoping to study either Events Management or Business Management at university.

There will be 24 high quality traders at the market, along with a barbecue, florist and a bespoke name plate carver outside in the courtyard. Entertainment will be provided by the Wilmslow Rock choir, who will perform at 11.30am, and Rhapsody, the school choir, who will perform at 1pm. During the morning the school string quartet will also be playing in the foyet.

Sophie Reacroft, Head of Operations, said "The Christmas Market will be a great opportunity to bring the local community and local independent traders together at this festive time of the year, we are having great fun organising the event and hope that it is a great and well deserved success."

The Christmas Market will take place on Saturday 11th December from 10.30 am until 3pm at Wilmslow High School. All funds raised on the day will be donated to The Well Spring Shelter in Stockport.
