Search on for budding radio stars

BBC Radio Manchester is offering listeners a unique treat this festive season – an opportunity to take over the airwaves on January 3rd.

A number of lucky listeners will each get the chance to present an hour-long programme on the station as a day of broadcasting is handed over to the audience.

Breakfast show presenter Allan Beswick launched 'The Takeover' on his show today, Monday November 22nd, as auditions for budding radio stars began across Greater Manchester.

The station will be at Sainsbury's carpark in Wilmslow with its Takeover Taxi on the afternoon of Monday 29th November where potential presenters will be asked to jump into the back of the taxi and do a one minute audition. This will involve them answering a question picked randomly from the special 'Takeover' box.

BBC Radio Manchester bosses will select up to 24 winners, judged purely on the auditions, who will then be invited into the station studios to record their programme sometime in December. Each of the listeners will have the chance to put their own ideas forward for their hour long programme and have their content overseen by a BBC producer.

Allan said "I think it's fairly safe to say that the BBC doesn't often hand over a whole day of programming to its audiences so this really is a unique opportunity. We like to try new things on the station and sometimes it is good to step out of your comfort zone. I know there's a lot of talent out there so I have no doubt we will get some brilliant programming on January 3rd."

Further dates and locations can be found on the website and winners will be announced on or before December 17th.

Entrants must be 18 or over and will need to sign a consent form on arrival at the audition. The station is looking for new voices, who have not previously presented professionally. See the BBC website for full terms and conditions.
