People in Wilmslow are being invited to a special event to promote community pride in a local beauty spot.

Cheshire East Council's community rangers and community wardens are hosting a roadshow at Carrs Park this Saturday, October 23rd, to encourage people to 'do their bit' to keep the 70-acre site in tip top condition. Visitors will be able to discover more about the work that goes into maintaining the parkland and find out how they can report incidents of littering and dog fouling.

There will be a range of information stands from organisations and services including junior wardens, rangers and dog wardens, who will be offering pet owners free poop scoops. There will also be an opportunity for people to have their say about what changes, if any, the park should make to its rules for dog walkers.

Cheshire East Mayor Gordon Baxendale will be guest of honour at the event, which takes place from 10am-3pm in the Twinnies Bridge car park. Members of Friends of Carrs Park and local Police Community Safety Officers will also attend.

Councillor Andrew Knowles, Cabinet member with responsibility for health and wellbeing, said: "Carrs Park is one of the most picturesque parks in Cheshire East and we work hard to keep the area clean and tidy for all to enjoy. But we cannot be everywhere at once, which is why we rely on members of the public to be our 'eyes and ears' and to report anti-social behaviour such as littering and dog fouling. The roadshow aims to spread the message that these small actions can make a big difference to everyone's enjoyment of this wonderful parkland."

Councillor Rachel Bailey, Cabinet member with responsibility for safer and stronger communities, said: "Although the majority of park users are respectful of their environment, regrettably the actions of a small minority can spoil it for everyone.

"Our position is clear – we are not prepared to put up with bad behaviour and anyone found to be littering, or failing to clear up after their dog, will face action. Although it carries a serious message, this roadshow has been designed to be fun as well as informative and I am sure it will prove a great day out for all."
