New junior football teams to be formed

Wilmslow Football Academy (WFA) and Wilmslow Town are pleased and proud to announce that they are forming teams in the Under 7’s and Under 8’s age groups. WFA currently manages the trial process used to select Year 3 children for Wilmslow Town’s U9 teams, who play in the Timperley and District League.

The structure for the new U7’s and U8’s teams will be slightly different in that the league organises games for them every 3 or 4 weeks. This will allow them to continue their development with WFA on the Saturdays that they don’t play in organised games. WFA and Wilmslow Town will also organise friendlies on Saturday mornings or afternoons every two or three weeks so that the children get used to playing team football.

Wilmslow Town have already registered two U7 teams with Timperley’s JJB Saturday Soccer league. They have also applied to both the Timperley and Stockport Leagues for U8 places as soon as they become available. Meanwhile, they will be arranging friendlies with other clubs and academies in the area.

Coach, Alex Brown has been appointed to head up the U7’s and U8’s. He will be in charge of the development of these age groups assisted by Erik Garner (Head Coach and Chairman of Wilmslow Town), Tom Johnson and supported by the Executive Committee of Wilmslow Town.

Wilmslow Town will be looking to appoint a manager and assistant manager for each of the teams formed, so if you are interested then please don’t hesitate to email Erik or ring for further details on 07792 791382.

Unlike the club’s other junior sides, U7/U8 players will not pay an annual subscription to Wilmslow Town, they will simply pay £5 for each match they play for their U7 or U8 team on a Saturday morning as they do when they usually train at WFA. The club will try to accommodate as many year 1, 2 and 3 boys and girls as possible, but spaces in teams will be limited.

Going forward Wilmslow Town will be looking for interested dads, or indeed mums, putting themselves forward to help run one of the teams. Without them, it won’t work. Anyone taking up the challenge will eventually take their Level One FA Coaching badge funded by Wilmslow Town.
