Caught bread handed

F5 Bakery Picture

As part of their curriculum in Food Technology, Pownall Hall School's Form 5 visited Peter Herd's Bakery shop in Wilmslow.

Whilst there, they were shown different types of bread and rolls and the baker explained how they were made. The children were amazed at the assortment of bread available and enjoyed sampling many varieties. They learnt about the contrasting sizes and weights of loaves and the amounts of ingredients used for different tin sizes.

At the end of their visit, the highlight for the children was the choice of a cake, pastry or bread from the shop which they managed to carry back to school before eating!

The Art and Technology Specialist teacher at the school, Mrs Henning-Lee, is planning for the children to use their new found knowledge in a future lesson when they make their own bread.

Following this, the children have been invited to visit Peter Herd's Bakery to experience how such a variety of breads are produced on a daily basis.
